The space combat gameplay of the Homeworld games is very much inspired by the stylized space battles seen in the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises, featuring space battleships and star-fighters that move through space like sea vessels or jet planes. The Barking Dog Studios-developed spin-off game Homeworld: Cataclysm added an interesting horror element to "harvest and space battles" premise of Homeworld, while the 2003 sequel Homeworld 2 improved the game's graphics and control interface.
