Let’s discuss ways that infographics are used as learning tools in the classroom, as well as a way that your students can create their very own infographic. Infographics (also known as ideograms and cuneiforms) have found special interest through social media sites, and none quite so much as Pinterest, likely because of its simplicity. (To wit: Carved stone is not so easy to erase or correct.) These often vertical displays (due to the nature of your web browser’s penchant for scrolling) are finding more and more acceptance as a way to quickly dispense information or knowledge in a visual format.Īs any good designer will tell you, the best way to get your thoughts across to an audience (and greatly increase the comprehension) is via that wonderful marriage of words and pictures an idea that has held sway at least since the day that King Tut’s art director was tasked with recounting his boss’s doings along the river Nile. ![]() You may have also noticed a recent surge of information graphics, or infographics as they are known to most. The space combat gameplay of the Homeworld games is very much inspired by the stylized space battles seen in the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises, featuring space battleships and star-fighters that move through space like sea vessels or jet planes. Until the date of Homeworld 3's release, fans of the Homeworld franchise can scratch their itch for awesome space environments and spaceships with the following titles. Finally, in 2019, Blackbird Interactive released a cinematic trailer for Homeworld 3, an upcoming game that by all accounts, will expand on the unique art and gameplay of Homeworld with cutting-edge graphics and more cluttered, tactically interesting environments. After more than a decade, veteran developers from Relic founded a new game studio called Blackbird Interactive and released a 2016 prequel called Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, a ground-based RTS about people from a desert planet who sought out ancient ruins with the technology needed to escape their dying world. The Barking Dog Studios-developed spin-off game Homeworld: Cataclysm added an interesting horror element to "harvest and space battles" premise of Homeworld, while the 2003 sequel Homeworld 2 improved the game's graphics and control interface. Related: Space Opera Tabletop RPGs Fans Of Homeworld Will Enjoy ![]() The epic narrative of the original Homeworld was a perfect match for this slow, stately RTS gameplay cycle, investing players in the drama of a fleet of exiles leaving a dying desert world behind and traveling across the galaxy to reach the planet their ancestors originated from. In large 3D space maps of asteroids, star dust, and ruined megastructures, players of Homeworld could harvest debris, manufacture spaceships ranging in size from the humble starfighter to the towering battleships, and then throw their assembled fleet at their foes in epic, Star Wars-style space battles where tactical maneuvering in three dimensions was possible and essential. Made by Relic Entertainment and published by Sierra in 1999, Homeworld, the first installment of the Homeworld franchise, took the 2D construction and combat-focused gameplay of real-time-strategy titles like StarCraft and expanded it to encompass the vastness of outer space. ![]() ![]() Symson said the “Personal Experiences” archive at has “some of the finest personal narrative journalism that I’ve ever read,” including pieces on human trafficking and the Syrian refugee crisis.
